We are proud to launch our Vibraphonic Records imprint with a reissue of one of the most important albums ever released in this country: Georgia Lee Sings The Blues Down Under. Georgia Lee was the original indigenous diva of Down Under Blues and Jazz. This landmark recording is being made available for the first time in almost 50 years
Georgia Lee was the 'original indigenous diva of Down Under Blues and Jazz' (Clinton
Walker). She was already a 20 year veteran on the Australian and international Jazz
scene when she recorded this album in 1962 for the Melbourne Independant label
Crest Records.
The album consists of some impeccably recorded Jazz standards including: 'Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen', 'Beale Street Blues' and 'Careless Love',
but is notable for two locally written tracks: 'Down Under Blues' and 'Yarra River
Blues' - written by Bob 'King' Crawford. 'Yarra River Blues' in particular, showcases Lee's unique, haunting style - this is blues
from the heart from someone who lived it. You can keep your young pretenders...Georgia Lee is the real thing.
And last week Georgia Lee Sings The Blues Down Under was added to the prestigious
'Sounds Of Australia Register' which is part of The National Film And Sound Archive.
This list celebrates iconic Australian recordings. Previous additions include 'Waltzing
Matilda', 'Pub With No Beer', 'Most People I Know Think That I'm Crazy', '(I'm) Stranded'
and 'Friday On My Mind'.
