Concert promoter Micky O'Neill (Adrian Dunbar) tries to revive a London theater club by booking "Mr. X," a Josef Locke impostor. When the sell-out crowd discovers the truth, he loses not only the club, but his sweetheart. In order to win her and his credibility back, he must lure the real Josef Locke (Ned Beatty) out of exile and onto the stage.
This film was an enormous favourite when released with crowds and critics alike. The gorgeous photography in the hills and valleys, the fabulously sleazy acting by Dunbar, the joyous chicanery of Beatty, and a wonderful soundtrack, are all equally unforgettable.
