Based upon the book by Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, About a Boy, An Education), this football mad romantic drama stars Colin Firth (Mamma Mia, Love Actually, Nanny McPhee) as the Arsenal-supporting nut who also teaches in a tough inner-city school. He lives for Arsenal first, his students second, and not much after that comes third….until fellow teacher Sarah (Ruth Gemmell) starts to turn his head.

Praise for the film has focussed on the acting, the story itself, but the word that gets bandied around more than any other is PASSION. The film is rife with passion, but also the congeniality that top British comedy tends to carry in spades. Great stars, fun story by a great author, and a soccer DVD reissue just in time for the 2010 World Cup. It’s a perfect set-up!
