Created by historian, Patrick Rotman, “The Berlin Wall 1961 – 1989” uses raw, archival footage, much of it never before seen, to give a unique inside perspective on the post-WW2 years in Berlin. The 40 years’ complete story of the Berlin Wall starts with what preceded the event: the evidence of political and economic difficulties; the attitude of the partner countries and the Western camp; the hesitations of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The film then recounts the reasons for, and context for the construction of the Wall: the discussions within elite political circles in East Germany and Moscow.

The film will also show how much the Wall’s existence conditioned the policies of the GDR, as the primary driver behind many political, economic, military and cultural decisions of the time.

“Anonymous” survivors of this terrible period in Germany history react to the archival footage, footage that illustrates their stories.

This film is an absolute must for those interested in WW2 and also in state of the art historical documentary.
